APLA Community Health Fair

Please join us for a day of FREE health services and activities in South L.A. Everyone is invited! Check out the schedule below, and spend your day with us on August 10! Presented by APLA Health’s ROAR Womyn’s Wellness.

HEALTH SERVICES:
9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free health services, provided on a first come, first served basis.
• HIV & STI Testing
• Blood Pressure Test
• Glucose Check
• Body Mass Index
• Dental Screenings

ACTIVITIES:
All activities are first come, first served. Space is limited.
▪ Reiki Recharge and Relaxation: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Raise your vibration with Reiki practitioner Carneka Grant of Radiant Sun Wellness (@radiantsunwellness). Each 15-minute, one-on-one session is designed to raise the vibratory energy where negative thoughts and feelings are attached to allow your positive life force energy to flow in a natural way.

▪ Walking on Sunshine: 8 a.m. – 8:45 p.m.
Start your summer day’s journey in the sunshine with a brisk walk through the historic Baldwin Village community guided by members of APLA Health’s ROAR Womyn’s Wellness AIDS Walk LA team (@ROARWomynsWellness). Suitable for walkers at varied pace levels.

▪ Peaceful Solutions Meditation I: 8:30 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
Diane Holder leads a restorative mediation session to revitalize, replenish and rejuvenate by releasing blocks in your mind and body, to experience harmony and renewal.
▪ Morning Chair Stretch: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Yoga instructor De Jur Jones (@mzdejur) moves you through gentle stretches that you can do anytime, in any chair to create flexibility and mobility in your body, reduce stress and enhance emotional well-being. No experience, mat or yoga clothes required.

▪ Writing to Renew You: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Feel the freshness and renewal of the morning and discover the empowering revelations of wellness and self-care through journaling guided by author-poet Camari Carter Hawkins (@camaricarter), author of Write Back to You, a journaling workbook. Copies of Write Back to You will be provided free to the first 12 workshop attendees.

▪ Energize Your Inner Warrior: 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Instructor Ade Neff utilizes the values of Capoeira Angola, a transformational African expression incorporating dance and martial arts, to unify and strengthen your body, mind and spirit. No equipment necessary for this fitness class.

▪ Plug In…To You: 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Shut off your devices and life’s distractions, and listen to your body to relieve physical impediments caused by emotional trauma. Somatic Experiencing™ practitioner Sarit Rogers (@somaticwellnessyoga) directs you on ways to hone into your body to better support and care for it.

▪ Hula Hoop Fitness: 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Summertime is the right time to release your inner child…and let them play! Our CPO—“Chief Play Officer”—Shani Anne Blueford (@shani_anne_marvelous) facilitates attunement through play and exploration with colorful hoops designed for smiles and laughter…which is always good medicine!

▪ Massage Therapy Workshop: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
Share a little tenderness with yourself and/or for those who are caregiving by learning easy techniques to soothe tired muscles and aching joints from massage therapist Darlene Donloe (@ddonloe).

▪ AfroFunk Dance Fit™: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
Experience this unique cardio dance fitness exercise fueled by the beats of African, Caribbean, Hip Hop and Funk music. Nayre (@nayredancefit) takes your through this fun, funky, cultural dance workout that uplifts the spirit, energizes the body and ignites the soul.
▪ Peaceful Solutions Meditation II: 1 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Diane Holder returns to lead an afternoon of transformative meditation to activate your power and cultivate a positive perspective on life.

▪ Whole Food Health: 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Ditch the supplements! Whether you’re a vegan or an omnivor, learn how eating whole foods can provide optimal health and nutritional benefits to fuel your exercise goals with functional nutritionist and health educator Renaldo Wilson (@the_gut_guy).

▪ See You(r) Joy: 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.
Peter J. Harris, founder of the Black Man of Happiness Project and its See You (@seeyou247) social media campaign, invites you to celebrate your humanity by uncovering and reconnecting to reflections of life-affirming moments in your own story that ‘emanate a sense of joy.’ Prompted by historic photos to spark discussions of happiness, participants are invited to bring family photos along with cell phones and/or cameras to capture in-the-moment happiness.

▪ Super Power Your Health: 2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Health educators Diana Mendoza (@balancecircular) and Renaldo Wilson (@the_gut_guy) dive into the world of prebiotics (apple cider vinegar, kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha, kefir) and probiotics (leeks, onions, garlic, corn, jicama, rye) to uncover how using both boosts beneficial bacteria to maximize your overall gut health. Samples of water kefir, kombucha, and fermented veggies will be provided, along with DIY ideas and recipes to get you started on your own adventure with fermentation.

▪ Yoga for Liberation: 2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Come to your mat and free your mind and body with Rebecca Watson (@begoodkarma) as she moves you through flows for strength and release. It’s movement medicine! Limited number of yoga mats available, so if you have one, bring it along!

▪ Mocktail Happy Hour: 3:15 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Come meet your neighbors and and enjoy a cool non-alcoholic beverage before our Health Fair Finale Sound Bath experience.

▪ Sound Bath: 4 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
End your day with a healing sound meditation from Certified Sound Healer Fawntice Finesse (@healwithsounds). Her antique Tibetan singing bowls, gong, and sacred instruments support self-reflection, self-care, self-love, and holistic healing, creating space to walk strong in your divinity.
