Casa del Sol Groundbreaking

A Community of Friends is thrilled to have held our groundbreaking ceremony for Casa del Sol on Monday, December 10, 2018. Located in the Sun Valley community of Los Angeles, the event included featured guests Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilwoman Nury Martinez.

Additional remarks were provided by Lynn Katano, LA County Community Development Commission, Douglas Guthrie, Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, Maria Joyce, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Reagan Maechling, Enterprise Community Investment, LaTina Jackson, LA County Department of Mental Health, and Hannah Kelley, Office of California Senator Robert Hertzberg.

Casa del Sol will be a 44-unit complex serving seniors who have experienced homelessness, including seniors with special needs in Sun Valley, California.

The unit mix will consist of 15 studios, 28 one-bedrooms, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit. Designed to meet high environmental standards, Casa del Sol will pursue LEED® Gold Certification.
On-site amenities will include a community room and kitchen, computer room, fitness center, laundry rooms, outdoor lounges, community garden, outdoor courtyard with seating and BBQ area.

The Casa del Sol project is expected to be completed in late spring 2020.
